whitney’s commitment to staying in character during that final scene is just stunning. beautiful narration + horrifying sound effects from brennan as always, but she hardly even looks at him — she’s glued to wicander with the sadness of someone watching a flower wilt. loss of innocence in real time and there’s nothing you can do. incredible

I LOVE Aabria's choice for Thaisha here. Thaisha's wording to Tyranny in the first episode ("I fell in love with the world, so I became a druid and I abandoned our kids") makes it seem like Thaisha left because she wanted to explore the world. That's probably partially true, but it's also because she feels a greater responsibility to the world that to her family.
Especially since Thaisha's family built the weapon that killed Azgra, that kicked off the Shaper's War! Her grandparents who participated in the war might still be alive - her Grandmama, as Loza calls her, is really her some-number-of-times-great grandmother, and she's still kicking. Thaisha feels this inherited responsibility, so she leaves.
This is a fantastic character choice, 10/10, excited to see where this goes.

Watching CR4 ep1, I am strongly reminded of that thing Brennan said about not even wanting to go out and get the newspaper without Aabria there, like, man, she is soooo helpful. She's constantly doing quick, clever little things to transition scenes or move things along, she inserts herself where it makes sense and is needed and she actively steps away to give other characters' their moments.
There's so many little moments where there's a small pause where usually Brennan would have to transition a scene and basically tell someone "hey you, you do something" and frequently instead Aabria will interject and do the transition herself, so Brennan can have a little snack, she is constantly aware both of what her character wants and needs and also what the overall story needs and honours both beautifully, most helpful player award right there, I love her
really big fan of how aabria finds little moments to make her character quietly do a thing, and then circles back to it throughout the episode, just briefly, like a little throughline, a sort of touchstone for the character. an understated little way to give her a Flavor and make her feel more rounded and cohesive, even though these bits only take like 15 seconds of screentime apiece

I’ve recently discovered how much better life can be when we normalize this. My best friend and I have started saying “hang on, I’m scripting” when we need a minute to mentally rehearse during big conversations (and “bear with me, I’m doing improv” when we’ve reached the end of our script and start to struggle with words lol)
